Cruel and Unusual

This man, Albert G. Brown, Jr., was convicted of raping and murdering a fifteen year old girl in 1980. He was convicted and condemned to death two years later.
Well, flash forward to 2010 and the raping, murdering dude is finally scheduled to get his lethal injection tomorrow night.
Not any more.
Thanks to a federal judge, the execution has been stayed due to the fact that California's supply of sodium thiopental, a barbiturate used in lethal injections, is set to expire on Friday.
Is everybody crazy? If Brown was set to be executed before the drug expired, what is the problem? And even if it has expired, who the hell cares?
