Boots on the Ground

We had never heard this expression before President Obama started to use it while trying to convince Congress and the American people that it would be a great idea to zap Syria.

"There won't be any boots on the ground."

This, we understand, means that American troops won't actually be pounding the sand in combat boots but the military will be doing something less threatening and quicker -- like maybe drone attacks?

Bashar al-Assad has allegedly been attacking his own people with chemical weapons which is evidently worse than just blowing their brains out with your standard issue bullets.  He denies the claims.

In the meantime thousands of Syrians leave the country every day and half of them, a million of them, are children.  They are refugees who have lost everything.  Some of them leave with just the clothes on their backs.

The lines on the map that define Syria were drawn by other world powers who showed some insensitivity to the various tribes and bloodlines that run throughout the region.

There are no easy answers.  There never have been and there never will be.
