Things are really ramping into high gear for the wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William. Yesterday they announced who will be in their wedding party. Certainly we all wish them well which is why the use of the late Princess Diana's engagement ring seems a little strange to this observer. What is it saying? I loved my mother and I love you, Kate, so I want you to wear the ring my father gave to her for their engagement?
That's not what I'm hearing. What I'm hearing is, my parents had a disastrous marriage of which my brother and I are the only good things to have come of it. The presentation to Lady Diana of this ring was only the first mistake since my dad was actually in love with another woman before, during and after his marriage to my mum.
I doubt they had to yank this ring off the finger of the deceased princess since why would she have been wearing it? Still, it smacks of bad karma.
Kate, I would have suggested they sell the ring, give the money to charity and get you a little something else from the royal vault. Or better yet, let you get something brand new.
