As the saying goes, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Sean Bell, pictured above with his fiance, was shot to death by New York City undercover policemen in 2006 and now the street where he was killed is going to be named Sean Bell Way.
Traditionally streets are named for heroes or those who lived their lives in the service of others, and not to memorialize people who were killed on the aforementioned mean streets.
However, the New York City Council approved the renaming of the street along with the names of 68 other New Yorkers who will also have streets, or portions thereof, named for them.
Obviously this is meant to appease the members of Mr. Bell's community who were upset at his murder at the hands of New York's finest. Bell had no weapon, but allegedly he was trying to run over a few of the detectives who were shooting at him. All three detectives were acquitted of any wrong doing.
Can Abner Louima Boulevard be far behind?
