The cinematic Von Bulow storyAfter 28 years in a coma, Sunny Von Bulow has passed away.
Her then husband, Claus, was accused of attempting to kill her by injecting her with insulin. Instead of death, she lapsed into a coma. Alan Dershowitz managed to get Claus acquitted in a second trial.
Two years after that, Claus von Bulow agreed to give up any claims to his wife's estimated $25 million to $40 million fortune and to the $120,000-a-year income of a trust she set up for him. He also agreed to divorce her, leave the country and never profit from their story, according to the AP.
The story was made into a movie starring Jeremy Irons and Glenn Close as the tragic couple.
According to her doctor it cost $375,000 to 'maintain' her for the first year. Health care costs have risen dramatically. No official figures are available, but by the early 1990s costs were $547,000 a year - plus $200,000 to $300,000 for round-the-clock private nursing.
That's a whole lotta money.
Claus lives in London and spends time with his three grandchildren.
