Assault and Batteries

Luis Figueroa pleaded guilty to attempting to shoplift $120 worth of Duracell batteries in a Stop & Shop grocery store in Watchung, NJ last May.

Apparently the situation got a little out of hand and Figueroa used his knee to strike the manager in the groin area three times.

Ouch.

Figueroa was remanded to the Somerset County jail to await his March 2009 sentencing. It doesn't look good for Mr. Figueroa as he has previous convictions for burglary and resisting arrest. The sentence of five to ten years could be doubled with 85% of the time to be served before Luis is eligible for parole.

I think the question that begs to be asked is: Why would someone try to steal $120 worth of batteries?

Or why would someone risk a LOT of prison time over batteries?

Maybe dude needed batteries for his remote control getaway car? (Yes, I know that was bad)
