I recently saw an ad on the tube for a new Dean Koontz novel.
Dean Koontz, in case you don't know, is a writer of books for the masses in the tradition of Stephen King. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, he and King once collaborated on a book.
But I digress.
Mr. Koontz is 62 years old, well past the age when it might be believable that he has auburn hair the color of an Irish colleen's. Nevertheless, he appears on my television screen with dark red hair and eyebrows.
Perhaps no one has told him that he looks ridiculous, so please, let me be the first.
There is a hair color that is pitched to men. Oddly enough it is called "Just for Men" and is hawked by Keith Hernandez and Walt Frazier. This might be the product that Dean Koontz uses.
Most men who color their hair look ridiculous, and I attribute that to the hair coloring they use. Not all women have believable hair color either, but for some reason most of them look more natural than men who dye their hair.
Is it the length of the locks? Is it the product? Is it the stupid commercials?
I would suggest that men who want to dye their hair use a product not geared for men, but one that is aimed at women. It would not emasculate them; quite the contrary. They might add pink to their wardrobes, but wouldn't it be worth it to take that chance?

This is what I do. I bitch and I moan, but secretely think I'm wonderful and when I look in the mirror I see a full head of hair in my original color - whatever that is. Either way it's okay. I never fell for that brainwash of eternal youth. Obadi oblada.
