You may have heard about the cruise to Antarctica wherein the ship hit an iceberg and sank rather quickly. Fortunately, all the passengers and crew were able to abandon ship, climb into the lifeboats and await rescue. This was not, after all, the Titanic.
Neither was it the Staten Island Ferry, although the vessels on that run do not have an untarnished maritime history either.
In hindsight I am surprised that these Antarctic tours do not run aground more often. After all, the ships are plowing through iceberg strewn waters.
What then of the folks who go on these cruises?
I can understand the desire to see exotic locales even if they are covered in ice, but global warming is not happening that fast. The bergs will not all melt as your ship is attempting to navigate the sea.
So strap on your life vest and enjoy the trip, ladies and gents. Bon voyage.
