I recently found out that there are deer on Staten Island. How, I wondered, did they get there? The theory is that they swim across the Kill Van Kull from New Jersey.
I find this very hard to believe. First of all, I have never seen deer swim, but more importantly, why would they leave New Jersey? Okay, okay, assume they do want to get to Staten Island.
Of course, they would take either the Outerbridge Crossing, the Bayonne Bridge or the Goethals Bridge. They would drive over in their pick-ups.
Logical, right?
Unless they have EZ Pass it would be quite difficult.
Where do they keep their money?
THEY HAVE NO POCKETS.
And there you have the secret as to why humans rule over the animal kingdom. Because animals do not have pockets.
Save for kangaroos. And kangaroos' arms are too short to reach into the bottom of their pockets.
The change they might drop in there just goes to the bottom. Unless there is a joey aboard, ain't no way the kangaroo is going to be able to get that loose money.
Should animals learn to make pockets for themselves this whole scenario might change, but until then mankind should savor its position in the hierarchy of the animal kingdom.
