Some farmer evidently came up with an idea one day.
"Let's make some money," he said to the little woman. "Let's make a maze out of the cornfield."
"That sounds like a great idea, Hiram!" she replied.
And so the idea of the cornfield filled with dead corn as money maker was born.
So folks trooped out from the city, paid their five bucks, got their maps, and got lost in the cornfields.
Personally, I can think of few things more terrifying than being lost in a cornfield. Needless to say, I wouldn't put myself in the middle of the field let alone pay for the privilege.
Yet every autumn there must be enough people looking for the thrill that farmers keep offering the attraction. I don't get it. If you do, please enlighten me.
