I'm watching television the other day (I'm ashamed enough about that) and this ad for Cialis comes on. I've seen it a few times, but this airing it catches my attention.
Who made up the name of this drug? Cialis. "See Alice."
I don't think this is an accident. The person who named the drug probably didn't invent it, but somewhere in its origin as a pharmacological instrument of pleasure there was a woman named Alice. I'm sure of it.
Arguably it could also be "Sea Alice," but I'm not enough of a cartographer to know where that might be. Wasn't there a town called Alice in Australia?
Anyway, I digress.
The fact that this mysterious woman named Alice has had a drug named for her, not just any drug mind you, but an erection inducing drug, intrigues me. I want to know more about her.
Was she hopelessly beautiful and horny? Did she send her man to work every day with a kiss and a wink, hoping that might be the day he would discover the means to keep her happy?
And who was he? Just an ordinary guy spending his days in the lab trying to cook up a remedy for his flaccid organ? Had he and Alice been together so long that she no longer excited him? Did he need a pharmaceutical just to get it up for Alice or for every woman?
Is theirs a love story or a tale of too many years of sex with the same person? I want to know more about them. Did they have kids? Did their kids know what dad did for a living?
And has anyone actually gone to the hospital because they had a hard on for four hours after taking Cialis? An erection that no amount of sex could collapse?
Go ask Alice. I think she'll know.

I can understand your curiosity about Alice. My concern is that after much effort you finally track her down, approach the door, ring the bell, and after you announce your intentions some nondescript person responds simply, "Alice doesn't live here anymore".
No clue as to where Cialis' name came from, however, I recently read that Viagra was so named bacause it suggests "Niagra" and idyllic honeymooning. -- D.H.
