Organ Grinders

This organ transplant deal is not without its problems. Now I'm sure thousands of people have gotten a new lease on life with some deceased's heart or cornea, but these dead dudes really need to come with a warning label.

A man in New York died in 2002 because the kidney he received came from a woman who died of uterine cancer and he developed cancer as well.

Recently a woman in Britain died from pneumonia. Now one can't say for sure if she succumbed from the cystic fibrosis she already had or because the lungs she received came from someone who smoked for thirty years.

Well, this wouldn't have happened if there were more lungs available! Where are all the bloody transplantable lungs?

New York Assemblyman Richard Brodsky thinks there should be a law that requires everyone to donate their organs. Of course you can opt out if you want to. Yeah, sure. For now. And for now they'll wait till you're dead to remove them.
