Aspiring

The Empire State Building's owner, Andrew Malkin, is getting snaps from me today for not buckling under pressure to light up the spire in blue and white in August to observe Mother Teresa's 100th birthday.

In a press release he said, "The Empire State Building celebrates many cultures and causes in the world community with iconic lightings, and has a tradition of lightings for the religious holidays of Easter, Eid al Fitr, Hanukah, and Christmas. As a privately owned building, ESB has a specific policy against any other lighting for religious figures or requests by religions and religious organizations."

Bill Donohue, head of the Catholic League, thinks this illustrates bias against Catholics. Of course he does. He thinks almost everything shows bias against Catholics.

We are to believe that most New Yorkers disagree with Mr. Malkin's decision on what to do with his building according to WCBS-TV. I sincerely hope they don't.

If you want to celebrate Mother Teresa's centennial, light up your own building in blue and white.
