Ya gotta love the cops in Dallas, Texas.
Over the last three years they've been issuing people tickets for not speaking English, by their count about 39.
This scam came to light recently when an Officer Bromley issued one such citation to a female driver who spoke limited English and had forgotten her driver's license. She had made an illegal U-turn.
The Police Chief apologized to the Spanish speaking community and said all pending citations would be dismissed and those who paid their fines would be reimbursed.
The question that begs to be asked is How did this go on for three years? If the offenders appeared before a judge wouldn't he/she have known there is no such statute? Taxi drivers must speak English as do commercial drivers, but apparently they were not the ones who had been given tickets.
