Is That Seat Taken?

There's nothing like a stabbing on a New York City subway to cement the notion in some minds that the Big Apple is rotten to the core.

Take Vincent Martinez. Please. Directly to jail. That's him pictured above being led away after he allegedly stabbed a fellow passenger to death on the subway.

On the D train at 2 a.m. Saturday, Martinez asked Dwayne Johnson to move his duffel bag so he could sit down. Now I don't know how crowded the train was, but I'm assuming that maybe it was full and Johnson had his belongings on the only empty seat. At least I'm hoping it was, otherwise I might have to conclude that Martinez was totally crazy.

Evidently Johnson didn't, or didn't move fast enough, so Martinez pulled a steak knife out of his pocket and stabbed the seat hogger in the neck.

One of the witnesses who pulled the emergency brake to stop the train, thus trapping passengers in the subway car with the deranged killer, reports: "The killer was following him and grabbing him, saying, 'You should have let me sit down.'"

That is so true.

I'll bet if Dwayne had it to do over again, he wouldn't have put his duffel bag on the seat next to him.
