Maybe Not a Bad Thing

Lots of churchgoers seem to be in an uproar over the changes that were made in many houses of worship around the world yesterday; that is, the Sign of Peace was modified from a handshake to a bow and there wasn't any sipping out of a Chalice. All this in the interest of halting the spread of swine flu.

Well listen up, folks, maybe all this touchy feely stuff isn't such a good idea to begin with.

Who among the faithful hasn't been offered the hand of a child who just caught a sneeze with it? And just how sanitary is it to put your lips on a cup that hundreds of others have already drooled on?

There are lots of transmittable diseases, not just swine flu. Seems to me that old axiom An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure is truer now than ever.

I never liked the touchy feely thing in church. Sure "peace be with you" until we get in the parking lot and you try to cut me off.
