Fungus Among Us

Only bats I really care about
The NY Times reports that bats are dying in alarming numbers. No, not baseball bats, but the flying mammal variety.
Apparently the Forest Service is closing thousands of caves in 33 states because half a million bats have recently died from a fungus called "white nose syndrome." They don't want people going into the caves, but I'm not sure why. A human connection to the fungus hasn't been established.
I can't imagine why anyone would want to go into a cave first of all, let alone one that's filled with bats. People, these creatures are flying vermin. When there's a rabies outbreak, they're the first to spread it. Didn't you see Cujo?
And please don't go on and on about how many bugs they eat. From the looks of New Jersey, which has more bats than any other state, they aren't eating anywhere near enough to put a dent in the insect population.

So much to worry about, sometimes I'm really glad I don't give a shit.
