It's Saint Patrick's Month!

Can we all stop pretending that we're celebrating St. Patrick's Day and admit that it's become St. Patrick's month?

It seems that local parades can be held anytime in the month of March. I guess if it's March, you can march or something like that.

For instance, in a small area of New Jersey there is a parade in Woodbridge on Sunday, one in South Amboy on the 14th and in Somerville on the 15th. And of course, there's the big NYC extravaganza up Fifth Avenue on March 17th, the traditional one day feast day of St. Patrick.

For anyone who hasn't experienced the delight of a St. Paddy's Day Parade, wear hip boots if you go as the spewing from amateur drinkers can cover a wide territory.

As soon as you sober up from one celebration, there's another to be had.

"The roads are lot wider in South Amboy. At one time we had 26 bars in a town that's a square mile, and everyone who lives here is Irish or part Irish," said Deana Siroki, bartender at the Landmark Tavern in South Amboy, speculating as to why the borough parade is so popular. "We have one of the biggest parades in the area."

Deana, we hate to disagree, but South Amboy's wide streets aren't the draw for your crowd. It's the 26 bars in a square mile that people are interested in.

I notice you're from Jersey, Moons. Well nearby there is also a parade this coming Sunday, here on Staten Island. Have you ever been?

Oh, Sonny, so many parades ... so little time. Who can remember? Who can remember anything after celebrating the Wearing of the Green?
