Behind my back the Vatican has been working on a new liturgy. The new translations aren't due to be hatched for a few years, but somehow some Catholic Churches in South Africa have already started using them. Apparently, some peoples can not so good read instructions.
Pope John Paul II started the ball rolling several years ago, decreeing that the translations from Latin to local languages needed to be closer to the actual Latin words.
The AP has provided a couple of examples:
Before Communion, for example, the prayer "Lord, I am not worthy to receive you" becomes "Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof." "One in being with the Father" becomes "consubstantial with the Father" in the Nicene creed.
Alrighty then.
Is this being done to 1) provide busywork for pedophile priests to keep them away from kids or 2) chip away at the progressive remnants of Vatican II? Or both? Or for some reason altogether?
There seems to be quite an uproar over the new translation among priests and members of the faithful. In South Africa, for instance, there are 11 official languages. Methinks its going to be difficult to express that the Lord is coming under your roof in all of them.
