Chimp Goes Ape

Here's the story.

Charla Nash went to visit her friends in Stamford, Connecticut who happen to own the above chimpanzee, Travis. Apparently the monkey had gotten out of the house wearing only a diaper and Ms. Nash was going to help coax him back inside. Inexplicably the 200 lb. monkey attacked Ms. Nash ripping off her face.

Travis's owner, Sandra Herold, called 911 and got a huge butcher knife with which she stabbed the enraged monkey in an attempt to get him off her friend.

Travis also attacked the police when they arrived. They shot him numerous times and he returned to his living quarters in the home where he died.

Interestingly, Travis had Lyme disease. Now this horrible disease needs publicity, but unfortunately I don't think this incident is going to do a whole lot to shake the medical community out of its lethargy although I wish it would.

Hopefully plastic surgery can return Ms. Nash to a normal life. It's too late for Travis.

I read that it's possible the chimp's behavior was due to Lyme disease. Apparently Lyme's symptoms are sometimes that severe in terms of cognitive breakdown.
