Bad Week for Eighty-Somethings

First it was gossip columnist Liz Smith. Word came this week that the 86-year-old Liz was being axed from the New York Post due to budget considerations. Hmmm. Is that true or is she just too old?

Now word comes that Manhattan District Attorney, Robert Morgenthau, will not be running for re-election in November. He will be 90 in August.

Personally I think Liz Smith looks great and could easily be taken for someone twenty years younger. Mr. Morgenthau hasn't changed a bit in thirty years and has done some fine work in the DAs office during his tenure.

Ms. Smith will still be writing for Parade Magazine and on the web so it's not as if she's going to go home and knit. I haven't heard of any future plans on DA Morgenthau's agenda. Sometimes maybe it's okay to just relax.

Is it me or does it look like they could be brother and sister? Or is it that old age thing whereupon anyone aged 200 would be indistinguishable?
