Bull

I admit that I have difficulty understanding and empathizing with people who have eating disorders. This, I am sure, is a shortcoming of mine.

For a while I thought I had half of bulimia; that is, the bull part or the binging part. I did not have the purging gift or "imia." Does "imia" stand for "I --missing in action?"

I was just reading about a woman who had bulimia. She would throw up boxes of cereal (presumably just the contents) or pizzas. This little disorder was costing her $80 a day.

Now of all the colossal wastes of money, I am voting this into the top ten. I can sort of understand anorexia -- you just don't eat, but to go to all the trouble of eating, and then getting rid of it -- well, that makes less than zero sense to me.

Who could afford to be bulimic? Certainly not me. Wouldn't it be cheaper to be a crack addict? I don't think shooting heroin would cost this much.

There is also the ethical side of this addictive behavior. There are children starving all over the world. They want to eat and they don't want to throw it up afterwards. If you're bulimic couldn't you just convince yourself that bringing food to a food bank is the same as puking?
