Drug Abuse

There is a commercial for CVS Pharmacy which features a pharmacist who describes the lengths he went to, on his day off no less, to go over a customer's regimen of drugs up close and personal in their home.

It very well may be a true story, but my experience with CVS has been a little different.

They've been my drug store for three years. A few months ago I brought them prescriptions from my doctor.

Silly me, I didn't check them till I got home. Gee, one didn't look like an antibiotic prescription. In fact it clearly said it was for treatment of schizophrenia.

To the best of my knowledge, schizophrenia is not one of my problems, but when I called the pharmacy, I was told, "Oh yeah, we had trouble reading the doctor's handwriting and figured it was either the antibiotic or the one we gave you. Bring it back."

So the wrong medication was returned and I was given a $20 co-pay credit.

I thought their attitude was a little too casual considering what might have happened had I popped the schizo pills.

Unless they know something neither my doctor nor I know.

I had a guru once who suggested to his followeres that if you're faced with an important either or situation, you should just flip a coin, the implication being that a well adjusted person could handle either possibility and that attachment to outcome is an obstacle to self-realization.

Sounds like the folks at CVS had the same guru.

Sounds like they are as dangerous as he proved to be.
