What if We Gave a War and Nobody Came?

I have to admit I was not familiar with anchorman Bob Woodruff until he and his cameraman were injured in Iraq while covering the war. In case you haven't heard, the U.S. has military forces in Iraq and we're actually at war over there.

I think the reason is because that's where the oil is. I understand President George Dubbyuh Bush pointed out in his State of the Union address that Americans are addicted to oil, but I digress.

Do we really need reporters covering the war in Iraq? They get hurt, they get kidnapped. What for?

It seems to me that the insurgents use our media to pursue their own agenda. If we don't give them any press maybe they'll stop terrorizing our people.

And ultimately maybe the forces will just get tired of fighting with us and our troops can come home because they'll have nothing to do.

When I was a kid I remember seeing footage from WW2, thinking, how in the world did they get such film

I mean it's not as if they'd send someone along just for that reason!?!

Could they!?! Would they?!?

It turned out to be an early lesson on the strangeness of this species we call human.
