PR

In this case PR does not mean Puerto Rico or Pope Ratzinger. It stands for "Public Relations."

Notice the media hype given the newly elected pontiff by his robed cronies regarding how warm and caring he is.

He's not warm and caring, guys!!

He was PJPII's hatchet man and the late departed pope let him run amok so that his own charisma would not be tarnished.

Okay, maybe he was a reluctant Hitler Youth, but I'll bet he still wears the shirt.

I noticed a picture of JPII when he was just elected and I was surprised to see how stern he appeared. Not at all the serene and holy look he had in later years. I think I got the answer. Brain damage. My father had that look when he was in his 50's. Right after he took a header down a flight of marble stairs and subsequent surgery removed a good portion of his brain. Yup, brain damage. It has a way of making a man look holy. Now the way I figure it, there are two ways to get that serenely enlightened look. Old age or Instant Trauma. Anyway the Cardinals realized they didn't want to fall into the trap of waiting years and years again for the pope to start looking holy. Also they didn't want to have to bop some young pope in the head. So they picked the next option: elect an old guy who already has that look of peace-cum-senility and there you have it: A Pope to carry on the tradition of JPII. He looks like he's lost in prayer but actually he's sitting there wondering if his shoe's untied. Conservative? Moderate? Liberal? I think Benny is on the threshold of being past such concerns. Yea, he might try to fake it, but really he's just wondering if his shoes are untied.

what's scary to me is all this fanfare about losing a pope and electing a new pope. it's like when all of sudden there's a vision of the virgin mary and thousands of people flock to some remote suburb of new jersey or some such place to see if the moss growing on a tree truly is the appearance of the blessed mother.

plain and simple. people are bored with their lives. and are looking for a break. a few months from now it'll be pope who. and they'll move on to the next media event. meanwhile looking to get a bigger piece of the pie: more tv, more cars, more food, more sex, more prestige. more fun. more. more. more.
