Poke the Pope

Listen up! The Vatican is launching a Facebook page dedicated to Pope John Paul II. They're doing this because they've discovered that the Facebook is a socially interactive website and creates a community. Imagine that!

PJPII is due to be 'beatified' in May which makes him one step closer to being named an official 'saint.'

One of the tricks he is alleged to have performed post mortem is to cure a nun of Parkinson's disease from which he suffered. Maybe once he's on board FB he'll be able to iron out some of the glitches.

You're Doing it Wrong

It seems like only yesterday we commented on personal notices in the newspaper to dead people and we wondered if the deceased actually looked in the paper to see if their loved ones still remembered them after they'd passed on.

Now since this is the internet age, there's a new twist to that story.

Is there a Facebook in the afterlife? Are the deceased checking to see if they've been defriended just because they're dead?

"Oh, Uncle Blah Blah Blah, we miss you soooooo much! Can it be that God took you to heaven only three years ago?"

"Dearest Auntie, we still love you and miss you! You were too young to go!"

People, even if there is a heaven you can be sure there isn't an internet connection. Even if there was, they would not be wasting their afterlife hanging on Facebook. Dead people are not reading your Facebook posts.

Please, please stop posting to dead people. They're not reading your messages and it only annoys everyone else.

Thank you.

Hey, Lady! Put Your Kid Out to Pasture!

A kid in the U.K. racked up $1400 in charges on his mum's credit card by playing Facebook's game Farmville.

Apparently a company called Zynga runs the game and sells virtual products like seeds. I bet you can buy actual seeds for less than that.

Zynga won't refund any of the money. Zynga appears to be in the business of bilking gullible consumers into third party scam deals which include leading people to believe they've contributed money to the Haitian earthquake relief fund when really they're just keeping all the dough.

The kid's Facebook account has been canceled, and HSBC which issued the credit card, says mum must turn child over to the authorities in order for them to consider reversing the charges.

I think mum should give that thought some careful consideration.

Is There Life After Facebook?

If you are a Facebook member you're well aware that periodically they screw around with it so that it doesn't work properly. Comments don't show up, posts disappear, old posts rise to the top ... you know the drill.

Facebook still hasn't recovered from the last screw-go-round on October 23rd. At that time they introduced a new feature which urges Facebookers to 'reconnect' with friends.

The problem is that for a lot of folks the people they want you to reconnect with are actually dead.

Actually a family can request that a deceased member's profile can be memorialized or eliminated altogether, but they most prove the member's demise.
