Seems quite a few of the laws we have in these here United States have been enacted to protect people from their own stupidity.
Like the helmet law, wherein motorcyclists must wear helmets when tooling around on their hawgs.
There is a group called American Bikers Aimed Towards Education and they just had a rally in upstate New York protesting mandatory helmet laws.
Philip A. Contos, one of the protesters, fishtailed and went sailing over his handlebars. Splat!
If he'd been wearing a DOT approved helmet he'd be enjoying a nice 4th of July barbecue right now. Instead, his brain is splattered all over Route 11 near Syracuse.
Physics. Not just a good idea, but the law.
