Vision Quest

There are different types of apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Sometimes she appears in a bucolic setting to young children or she might be on your grilled cheese sandwich. I had no idea she actually appeared to a nine-year-old boy in the South Bronx!

Of course, that was back in 1945 and the South Bronx was a bit more habitable. Still, Mary showed up in an empty lot and told a young Joseph Vitolo to come back for the next 16 nights to pray the rosary. Next thing you know, 25,000 people showed up.

Joey kept showing up every night for the next sixty years but now he's got heart trouble and prostate cancer and can't make the trip like he used to. That's okay, Mr. Vitolo, it's only in Neverland that little boys never grow up.

By the way, why does Mary have a Star of David on her chest?
