Falling to New Heights

The man clinging to the rock wall in the picture is John Bachar. Mr. Bachar who was 51, fell off a mountain near his home in California Sunday and died.

Apparently Mr. Bachar was a 'Stonemaster;' someone who climbs mountains with a minimum of equipment, sort of like Spiderman.

I don't think he was ever gainfully employed although according to his obituary: He found work designing climbing shoes, establishing himself as a mentor.

Any regular reader of this blog knows that I think mountain climbers are a silly, deluded bunch, but it seems that John Bachar was ahead of the pack in that regard. People quoted in his obit seemed to have a difficult time finding anything nice to say about him.

RIP, Stonemaster.
