We are still chewing over the facts regarding Private Bradley Manning and his release of thousands of classified documents to Wikileaks which prompted his arrest, plea bargain and ended with him being sentenced to 35 years in prison. He will probably end up serving less than a third of that. Things could have been much worse had he been convicted of aiding the enemy. Then he'd be looking at life behind bars without the possibility of parole.
Well, whether or not you believe he was a traitor to his country or some sort of humanist hero, the fact of the matter is Bradley wants to be known as Chelsea and begin receiving hormone therapy as soon as possible. He does not want surgery, his lawyer says.
Now gender identity is a very complex issue and one which Bradley/Chelsea --middle initial 'E'-- says he has been struggling with since childhood.
Really, Bradley? And what does the middle initial stand for?
Anyone who is confused about their gender shouldn't do a couple of things that seem to be very obvious to us.
1) Join the military
2) Leak classified documents
Seems very convenient that Bradley/Chelsea decided to announce this gender change just when he/she is on his/her way to the slammer. Will he/she feel safer among women?
