Demon Inferno
How can you not love Florida? It's shaped like a penis, it's close to Cuba and it's filled to the brim with crazy people.
Take Danielle Harkins for instance. Oh wait, someone already has, locked her up and won't let her out unless she posts $55,000 bail.
Danielle is/was a literacy volunteer at a primarily Asian center in St. Petersburg. The other night she met with seven Asian teenagers near the St. Petersburg Pier where they gathered around a fire and she taught them how to exorcise themselves of demons.
We were unaware that there are basically two steps to accomplish this. First, you cut your skin and then you burn the wound so the demons don't go traipsing back in.
A couple of the teenagers were injured if you can believe it, and although they were reluctant to talk about the incident, police were notified and took Harkins into custody.
Seems the 35-year-old exorcist was recently divorced which was either the cause of her trip to Crazy Town or the result of her riding the rails to Crazy Town.
According to the Miami Herald:
Lisa Cope, Harkins' next-door neighbor for the past four years, said the last time she saw her, Harkins had taken an interest in extreme religious beliefs.
"She was my friend," Cope said. "She cried on my shoulder when she and her husband were getting a divorce."
Cope didn't know what to make of her neighbor's newfound religious interest.
"She told me I was okay," Cope said. "She said I didn't have any demons."
Apparently Ms. Cope didn't think there was anything weird about her friend giving her a demon update.
We'd be interested to hear why all these teenagers thought they were possessed by demons. If they had a reason to think so it might be a good idea to drop them off at the psych hospital.
