Happy Earth Day!

There was some flap over the Frappuccinos at Starbucks recently which you probably heard about.

It's another one of those cases of which came first -- the chicken or the egg -- only it seems that it wasn't chicken or eggs but beetles.

Vegans evidently complained to Starbucks that they didn't like animal products in their Frapps, but how did they know that the coffee conglomerate was coloring their Strawberry Frapps with the ground up ectoskeletons of beetles a/k/a Cochineal extract?  How does the average person discover that the pink color of their Frapp isn't from strawberries but from pulverized beetles?

Well, Starbucks is caving in and is now going to use lycopene to color their beverage and food items that need to have a pink color.  Lycopene is made from tomatoes.

We may be going out on a limb here, but how about using actual strawberries and raspberries to color those things that Starbucks sells using the names of those fruits?

And for all of you people who don't belong to PETA and were repulsed by the thought of drinking bugs, do a little investigating into the horror show that is industrialized farming (just a 'for instance') and find out what you're really eating.  A few little beetles will seem like part of a well balanced diet.
