Last night on TLC (which used to be The Learning Channel but isn't any more unless all you want to do is learn how to be a freak) I saw their new program Extreme Couponing.
I was mesmerized.
There are people in the United States who spend all their time acquiring coupons so that they can purchase $600 worth of goods and pay only $5.89. Or maybe $1,200 worth of stuff so they can pay less than $100.
The funny thing is, they don't actually buy any food.
The obese woman who bought 150 candy bars and paid no money isn't getting anything for free except maybe a heart attack.
1100 boxes of Total Cereal? What is in those boxes? Processed crap.
Okay, maybe you'd sleep better if you had 30,000 rolls of toilet paper in your garage in case you and a small city develop diarrhea, but seriously folks, do you really need it?
Most of these people have enough deodorant in their basements to keep an entire continent smelling fresh, but why?
Is it just because some people have an addiction to getting things for nothing?
One crazed shopper actually bought yogurt which is as close to an actual food as anyone on this show purchased. Most of what they buy isn't even in the food pyramid. The only green things they seem to purchase are in Lucky Charms.
Truly frightening. This is why Americans are fat and stupid.
