As you know, beaches can be dangerous places.
First off, as we've repeatedly warned you, the ocean is full of creatures that would like nothing more than to eat you.
And again, there are those riptides wherein a hapless swimmer gets sucked away from shore and drowns.
Yesterday the temperature hit 90 degrees in New York and the lure of the murky waters was too much for some to ignore.
Surfer Carlos Rodriguez rescued some drowning girls at Rockaway Beach.
Meanwhile off Long Beach a couple of swimmers were pulled out to sea.
A police SUV, responding to a distress call, ran over a sunbather on the beach. Marshall Starkman was minding his own business lying on his lounge chair, when he was run over. He was airlifted to a near-by hospital with tire tracks across his back.
Lifeguards go on duty Saturday. Usually traffic lights are not installed on beaches.
