Digital Madness

New York City has a vigorous anti-smoking television campaign. They have produced and air really nauseating commercials designed to make you so sick you wouldn't even think about lighting up.

Take Marie. Please. Take her and get her some prosthetics.

Marie is from the Bronx and has a sultry voice no doubt from years of smoking cigarettes. What Marie doesn't have are fingers and she's happy to show you her stumps.

Says she, "Every time I went to the hospital I lost another body part."

My immediate reaction is, "Then stop going to the hospital, Marie!"

If I lost part of my fingers or my foot every time I went to the hospital I'd stop going. Seriously. I've known lots of smokers in my lifetime and none of them lost any body parts.

The story is Marie developed Buerger's disease from smoking. I've never heard of it and Marie doesn't talk about it during the commercial so I actually had to look it up.

I'm thinking Marie has more problems than just those she developed from smoking, but I'm hoping the money she made from making this commercial helps with some of them.
