American Express is offering $300 in AmEx gift cards to customers who pay off their balances and close their accounts.
Selected cardholders began to receive letters earlier this month giving them this golden opportunity.
Said Molly Faust, AmEx spokesperson, "It's a relatively small number of cardmembers who have sizeable balances and little spending and payment activity."
American Express won't disclose the criteria they're using to determine who gets "the letter," but they did say it is not being offered to corporate accounts.
