A 93-year-old man froze to death in his own home because the power company had limited his use of electricity due to his unpaid electric bill.
This happened in the financially desolate state of Michigan in Bay City.
The temperature inside the house was 32 degrees when Marvin E. Schur was found dead by his neighbors on January 17th.
Mr. Schur had no children and his wife had pre-deceased him. He owed more than $1,000 to Bay City Electric Light & Power. How much more isn't known.
As the population ages this will happen more frequently I'm willing to bet.
Bay City Manager Robert Belleman doesn't believe the power company did anything wrong.
I would think Mr. Schur would disagree.
