A 64-year-old wheelchair bound woman was killed early this morning when a fire tore through her apartment on Roosevelt Island.According to the NY Post:
Next door neighbor, Bella Bekkerman, 85, said the victim, who lived alone, was a heavy smoker, had suffered a stroke and relied on a home care attendant during the day.
"Everybody told her not to smoke," Bekkerman said of her friend's fragile health.
Yeah, Bella, and she almost took all of you with her.
