Joe McCarthy Channeling Through Michele Bachmann

Senator Joe McCarthy, he of the "commie under every bed" paranoia, is alive and well and living in the person of Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota.

Rep. Bachmann recently appeared on Hard Ball with Chris Matthews for the sole purpose of putting her feet in her mouth and acting like a complete nut case.

Now visibly medicated, she has recorded a sort of apology for her antics. Her words:

"Once again, our nation is at a crossroads and it's a time for choosing. We could embrace government as the answer to our problems or we can choose freedom and liberty. I may not always get my words right but I know that my heart is right because my heart is for you, for your children and for the blessings of liberty to remain for our great country."

Her appearance on Hard Ball precipitated an avalanche of monetary donations to her opponent, Elwyn Tinklenburg.

I saw the original interview, then the retraction. This woman is lower than low. She tried to play the demagogue card a la Palin and then when that didn't work she quickly retreated like humility was the new currency.

This woman has no soul. I'd be wondering how she looks at herself in the mirror but obviously there is no reflection.

And this is from someone who usually doesn't give a shit about politics. To make me care you got to be pretty horrible.

We were at the National Civil Rights Museum yesterday, and it seems like the word "Communism" is thrown around whenever a smear campaign goes down. Racial integration in schools? Same as communism. Black people voting? Communism. Black people peacefully protesting? Communism. It makes me wonder if the general population has ANY IDEA what the word even means.

I am ashamed that I used to live in Minnesota...and please, people in her district? Do the right thing...
