Call me crazy, but I just don't think there's a legitimate reason in the world why an 8-year-old needs to shoot an Uzi.
Last Sunday little Christopher Bizilj picked up an Uzi and fired at a pumpkin. The recoil of the fully automatic weapon was too much for him and he ended up shooting himself in the head.
All this happened at a gun show - the Machine Gun Shoot and Firearms Expo at the Westfield Sportsman's Club in Massachusetts with the boy's brother and father in attendance. Christopher's daddy is the director of emergency medicine at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford, CT.
According to the AP, the club advertised the show on their website thusly:
"It's all legal & fun — No permits or licenses required!!!!"
"You will be accompanied to the firing line with a Certified Instructor to guide you. But You Are In Control — "FULL AUTO ROCK & ROLL."
The ad also said children under 16 would be admitted free, and both adults and children were offered free .22-caliber pistol and rifle shooting.
Just my opinion, but even if Al-Qaeda was marching down Broadway with pumpkins on their heads, don't think that's a good enough reason for 8-year-olds to be armed with automatic weapons.
