This photograph is of the latest living goddess, Matani Shakya, appointed Tuesday in Nepal.
She is three years old and was taken from her family to live in the temple until she reaches puberty when apparently they don't have any use for her any more and she loses her divine status.
In order to be named a goddess, a girl must have perfect hair, teeth, eyes, skin (no scars) and not be afraid of the dark. The final test involves the kid spending the night in a room with the heads of ritualistically slaughtered animals.
Yeah, this isn't Little Miss U.S.A., kids.
These folks are playing hardball with their goddess.
