Somewhere along the line it became understood that parents paid for their children's college educations. It seems that every parent (other than me) has vast sums of money put away for just this purpose.
Along the same line it became accepted that children paid for their parents' stays in nursing homes.
Am I the only person who didn't get these memos?
When my mother required 24/7 care, the nursing home accepted her social security checks as payments even though it was not enough to pay her full residency fee.
When my kids were ready for college, they took out loans and their father and I took out loans to cover the balance owed to the institutes of higher learning.
Whereas it's true that my father paid my tuition, in 1969 a semester at a private college cost $1200.
Despite that, I'm still not sure that I think it's a good idea that parents (especially those who are struggling to accomplish this) foot the bill for their kids' educations. Are these students actually learning the value of a dollar or are they more inclined to languish for years in classes while the folks pay the tab?
I also did not get the memo that says I should have a large sum of money tucked away for my retirement.
Could someone please see that I get these memos in the future?

The good news is that global warming will render meaningless whether one has prepared for the future or not.
Unless one has invested their time and money into the fine art of scuba.
