Surprise?

Doesn't anyone who works for FEMA have cable or satellite television? Didn't anyone flip past the Weather Channel and notice that there was a hurricane headed first past Florida and then towards the Gulf Coast?

When terrorists slam 747s into the World Trade Center, THAT is a surprise, but when you watch a storm for days as it increases in strength and heads towards a populated area of the United States, that should not be a surprise.

If it did not occur to you that a bowl shaped city such as New Orleans would flood during a Category 4 hurricane, then shame on you, Michael Chertoff. If it did not dawn on you that a Category 3 was enough to destroy the levee system, shame on you, George W. Bush.

How is it that the Federal Government did not know there were thousands of people stranded in New Orleans' Convention Center when everyone in the United States watching television was aware of it? For shame, Michael Brown.

A friend of mine has suggested moving the evacuees to Crawford, TX, next to the President's ranch. I think surrounding the ranch with trailers filled with these unfortunate souls is an excellent idea.

Crawford is not far from that other shrine to Federal ineptitude: Waco, Texas.
