Sc-ouch!

Let me say right up front that I'm not a big fan of the Boy Scouts. I think whenever you have grown men in quasi-military garb with shorts you are in trouble. And let's face it, the Scouts are a magnet for pedophiles. Again, we call your attention to the short pants.

Neo-nazi pedophiles aside, the Scouts seem to attract a not too bright element as well. Witness the tragedy in Virginia at the "Boy Scout Jamboree." (I think we should immediately be wary of anything called a "Jamboree").

Four scout leaders managed to kill themselves by hitting a power line with their tent pole.

Are these really the sort of people to whom you want to entrust your sons? I mean, isn't pitching a tent sort of the first lesson in Scouting 101?

Isn't "Stay away from power lines" right up there with "Don't make toast in the showers, boys?"

Maybe I just don't have the group mindset necessary to be a good scout, but at least I know enough not to wear a hanger on my head in a thunderstorm.

Was it Groucho Marx who said, "I wouldn't want to join a club that would have me as a "member"?"

RE: the boyscouts. I think it's important to note that "member" might in some cases be the operative word and have nothing to do with joining (or everything to do with joining). (wink wink)
