Happily Ever After

Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles got married today. Camilla is now the Duchess of Cornwall, I think because they really don't know what to do about her. Charles' uncle had to abdicate the throne because he wanted to marry a divorced woman. Despite the family history and whatever royal rules we commoners especially those of us in the States don't have a clue about, Charles is still in line to inherit the throne.

That is, if his mother ever dies or gives up the crown. Personally, I don't think she will give her first born a shot at the throne, and with Charles' luck his mum is liable to live to be at least as old as her mother (102).

So I'm placing my bet that Prince William will sit on the throne and that his father won't, but then again nobody's asking me.

Poor Charles. How many boys have to wait for mummy to quit her job before he can have a real one and wear a real crown?

The very least they could do was to let him marry the woman he loves.

Now Camilla is Charles' age, and she's been married and divorced, and she's got a couple of nice looking kids, and most Brits seem to prefer the late Princess Diana over her.

Well, folks, apparently Charles never loved Diana, or if he did, he got over it rather quickly. She produced two heirs which was really what the union was all about, don't you think?

Maybe there are those who can't understand why Charles preferred Camilla, but he did and does.

You can't decide with your mind who you will love. It's still a matter of the heart whether you're the Prince of Wales or just a regular guy.

For whatever reason a lot of us make mistakes when it comes to love and marriage. We marry people we love, and then we fall out of love. We marry people we don't love, and we end up hating them and ourselves. We don't marry the people we really do love and want to be with for the rest of our lives.

I, for one, am glad that Charles and Camilla got married and have the opportunity to live out their lives together whether or not he becomes King Charles and she's the Princess Consort or gets a shot at being a real Queen.

I'd like to think they have a contemporary fairy tale story.

We don't know much about Cinderella and her prince, but when we last left them they certainly hadn't weathered much trial and tribulation except for a shoe fitting.

Charles and Camilla have paid their dues. I wish them the best.
