Everyone Who's Alive Raise Your Hand!

Another ethical conundrum down there in Florida....

Howz about we just saw that state off and let it crash into the Bahamas?

Now we've got the U.S. Congress sticking their dipsticks into people's personal lives. ENOUGH ALREADY!!!! Even Solomon knew enough to back off, and you guys and gals WILL NEVER achieve wisdom in your lifetimes.

First of all I'm grappling with how a young woman has a chemical imbalance and has a heart attack? a stroke? a meltdown? and then enters into a persistent vegetative state for the next 11 years.

Her husband is her guardian and that seems to be fine with everyone until he wants to pull out her feeding tube.

Her parents don't want her to die and apparently neither does the House of Representatives or the Senate.

Somebody thinks she's just not getting the right therapy and that if she did, she'd be fine.

Umm, okay I'm no physician, but if that were the case wouldn't someone have thought of this a few years ago? Maybe?

My point (and yes I do have one) is that it is not the duty of Congress to decide whether or not this unfortunate woman lives or dies. It's a family matter requiring maybe intervention by a very local court.

Next thing you know we'll be having Dick Cheney decide what dogs get put down. It's totally ridiculous.

Our illustrious members of Congress can't find their assholes without maps. Why you would want them deciding the fate of some total stranger is beyond me. Oh wait a minute, they do that every day we're still in Iraq.

i thought the republican party was the party for states rights

first the supreme court annoints bush president

now congress says "no" to the courts of florida, "you got it wrong, we will in our infinite wisdom take it from here." pres agrees "the courts got it wrong, me, the dictator, should step in."

FUCK! I hate getting involved in politics on any level but this is SHIT!

This is an abomination.

This is just plain scary.

I guess some would argue that it is being referred to the courts - the federal courts.

I say "oh yeah, the ones that might say what you want them to say so the pres can DICTATE his morality on the masses."

Now the kicker is. I think they should keep feeding the woman. I mean it's one thing to take someone off life support - pull the plug as it were. It's another thing to starve someone to death.

But what I believe or someone else believes is not the point. This has been kicking around the state courts (where it belongs) for over 10 years. They made a decision. Appeals upon appeals were made. Same decision. But now the creeping christian moralists have hijacked the process and are in gear to inflict their will on us.

Isn't this the reason why americans are dying in Iraq? So that those who live in Iraq aren't under the whim of whatever religious fanatic is able to bully his way to power.

well here we have the start of the same thing. those of a particular religious point of view bullying their way through the system til "what is right" (in their eyes) comes to fore.

yea , that's just what i need. some sexy journalist (yea i think your opinions are sexy - male chauvinist pig that i am - condescendingly thinking a woman with a point of view is to be tamed with the word sexy)..... but back to my point. you give me a nod of approval and now i'm thinking i want to stick my tongue down your throat. that's all i need. a nod. and i get all hot and bothered. do i want to pursue our seeming aggreeing on the issues? no, i want to go to bed with you. fuck the issues. no, wait. actually the issues are exactly what i don't want to fuck.

so here i sit. horny. and now i don't know where i stand on whatever issue we were talking about in the first place.

(maybe you could include a picture in your blog profile?)

(god what the hell is wrong with me)
