When I went to parochial school, right after the Spanish Inquisition, the nuns had an interesting way of dealing with kids who didn't have 'Christian' names. They'd just call them something else. For instance, Dana had to use her middle name, Joan, and Eliza became Elizabeth. Voila! Problem solved.
Pope Benedict XVI has used a baptismal ceremony to urge parents to give their children traditional names. Sayeth he, "Do not give your children names that are not on the Christian calendar." Presumably that does not include August and October.
What the Pope really should say is don't give your kids names that are stupid like Apple and Trig. I mean, doesn't that go without saying?
Perhaps it was no coincidence that the papal decree came shortly after David and Victoria Beckham (parents of Romeo, Brooklyn and Cruz) announced they were pregnant again.
