This is Kayla Gerdes and she is 18 years old. She is also in a shitload of trouble.She's charged with running over and killing a retired woman, Dr. Rebecca Twine, who was gardening on her front lawn in Hempstead, NY on Tuesday morning.
Allegedly, Kayla's boyfriend was driving her to court to appear on some other charge in his company van. Kayla, who was high on Oxycontin and Xanax, didn't think he was going fast enough so she got behind the wheel. Obviously she was going too fast and the van jumped the curb and plowed into the 69-year-old retiree.
Assuming Kayla has a lawyer, I guess he or she was unable to get the kid to keep her stupid, pill- filled mouth shut as she was arrested, because the girl kept screaming she was sorry, it was an accident, etc., etc.
"Please leave me alone. Leave me alone, please. Please, it was a mistake. Okay, the car went out of control. I was pressing the brake and it wouldn't go. It was a mistake. I'm sorry!"
Kayla has a drug problem (ya think?) and was released from rehab because her insurance wouldn't cover it. Prison is the poor man's rehab.
